Autism diagnostic assessments for children and young adults
Our expert team have appointments available now.
Private Child Autism Assessment
We are a specialist clinic, based in Hertford, providing private assessments for autism and adhd for children and young adults. As can be seen, all of our clinicians have specialist experience and training in autism assessment/diagnosis within a range of community and national specialist services.
Principally, we conduct our gold-standard assessments in line The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE guidelines), in order to provide high-quality assessments and reports. Additionally, we use recommended screening and assessment tools such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – 2nd Edition (ADOS-II). Our assessors are all trained, experienced, and regulated by a professional body. In addition, we understand the many ways that autism can present, including in females, as well as in those with additional needs.
Private Child Autism Assessment Hertford- Referrals
Although based in Hertford, we accept referrals from all over England. Clients do need to be able to attend one face-to-face appointment in Hertford, as part of the assessment process. Generally, the majority of the assessment can be conducted remotely. However, it is best practice for assessment teams to meet the child in order to complete the ADOS-II, which is a key part of the overall assessment and should be conducted in person in order for the assessment to be valid.
Combined Austism and ADHD assessment Hertfordshire
We are now offering assessments for both Autism and ADHD for children and young adults. We know that Autism and ADHD often co-occur and so we will now be screening all children referred to us for ADHD as well as Autism. Following the screening process, we will advise you whether a full assessment of Autism and ADHD, Autism only or ADHD only is recommended.
Some individuals or families want to consider medication to help treat their child’s ADHD symptoms. It is important to note that we do not currently offer an ADHD medication service. If a diagnosis of ADHD is given and you would like to consider medication, then we may be able to signpost you to a local psychiatrist to help with this. You can also ask your GP to refer you to the appropriate local NHS service for ADHD medication follow-up. Please be aware that a private ADHD diagnosis will not lead to prioritisation in NHS services.

Thank you for your support throughout the assessment process for our son. The assessments were thorough and we felt listened to and understood, something that we have not always felt until coming to you.
Parent of 11 Year Old Boy
We felt lost until my son received advice, guidance and a diagnosis. Now we have a clear direction of travel and he is smiling again.
The desire to get to the root of the problem and the ability to see what others cannot.
You provided a personal touch to my son at the end by writing a personal letter to him that was age appropriate and enabled him to understand himself better. My whole family was very impressed.
Parent of 6 year old
We had a really positive experience working with Rebecca, who made the process of diagnosing our son's autism everything we wanted it to be: neuroaffirming and validating.
Her approach was extremely thorough, which gave us deep trust that outcomes would be accurate.
Her delivery of the outcomes was very considerate and caring. And timings ! It was great to be able to progress quickly once we had decided to embark on this process. Thank you so much 🙂

Such great support. Beyond a top quality report, a responsive flexible service and a lot of additional guidance and consideration for first-timers navigating the confusing landscape of ADHD and the health service. Thank you
Parent of 16 Year Old Girl
Dr Hunt and the team made the assessment of my 16 year old daughter straight forward. The process was efficient, the practitioners were friendly and the support offered was second to none. As a result of the assessment my daughter understands herself better and we have been able to gain appropriate support in areas that she needs. Would highly recommend.

Rebecca and the team were very thorough and professional throughout my daughter’s ADHD assessment. There was a minimal wait time and the communication was excellent. Everything was explained well and my emails were usually answered on the same day. I was really pleased with the service provided.
Parents of Young Adult 3
I liked that the service felt personal and that my daughter was listened to. The report that we received was really comprehensive with lots of information in it about next steps and where we could find out additional information. My daughter was really comfortable with everyone and we felt informed at every step of the way.
Parents of Young Adult 2
Thank you for providing a great service. The outcome has really helped my daughter to understand more about herself and why she has always felt different. The report provided was great and we've been using it as a tool to support her as she tries to make sense of her diagnosis.
Parents of Young Adult 1
After lots of research, we approached Dr Hunt Psychology as it was suggested by one of our daughter's teachers that she may be neurodivergent. We were put at ease throughout the whole process, we found each professional that we came into contact with to be knowledgeable and reassuring and the report provided at the end of the assessment was extremely comprehensive. The outcome has answered lots of questions for my daughter and she can now start to learn and implement coping strategies to support her neurodiversity.
Parent of young adult

Parents of Teenage Girl
Straightforward. Clear fee structure. Sensitive to the needs of our family. Clear factual report with clear recommendations. Excellent post-report support
Parents of Teenager 2
The service provided by Rebecca’s team was brilliant, family’s who need to access this sort of service need help, and the processes are unknown or not understood. The team diagnosed my son very efficiently and provided guidance and help for the future. My son is still getting to grips with his feelings and emotions and we are still working on it to this day, but we were given the tools to understand why he was the way he was, and helped us all understand him better
Parents of Teenager
Very calm assessors who helped get the diagnosis efficiently – parents of teenager
Young Adult 2
Dr Hunt Psychology was brilliant in providing me with my diagnosis of autism. The process was surprisingly quick from the initial interview stage to receiving my report. Dr Hunt was amazing in conducting each interview and the report that she put together with Lauren explained everything in great detail. I was also very happy with my actual assessment, which was given by Lauren Daniel. She was very friendly and really helpful, as I felt completely at ease during my assessment. At the end of the process, I was relieved to have been given a diagnosis, as it explains a lot in terms of my feelings and behaviour. I would definitely recommend Dr Hunt Psychology as a service to others who are looking for a potential autism diagnosis.
Young adult
The assessment was very thorough and Lauren, who conducted my assessment, was extremely friendly and helpful. Rebecca was very thorough with her online interviews too, which I also found very helpful. The wait time for the assessment and also the report were also good, and I felt that this was very important as I did not feel comfortable waiting for long periods for a result. This was therefore very reassuring. The detail of the final report was impressive too, and I liked how quickly the whole process went.
Parent, 2 children assessed
After having a really difficult time with one of my children dr hunt psychology was recommended to us. The service was outstanding, so much so that we are currently having our other child assessed by Dr Hunt.
Parent of a 6 year old
Dr Rebecca Hunt was professional, efficient and I know she had a great depth of understanding of my child. Her feedback was clear and concise and she offered further service if needed. The school stated that her report was detailed and gave some great recommendations for them to put in place.
Parent of a primary school aged child
Dr Rebecca Hunt was so knowledgeable and I had trust in her that she understood my child and his needs.
Parent of a 5 year old
We had our 5 year old daughter tested for autism due to the challenges we were facing. The service was efficient and made as least stressful as possible. We have recommended as out of all the companies I messaged, these clinicians were the most prompt in responding and answered questions directly.
Parent of a primary school aged child
The screening process was excellent and all was captured correctly which was amazing, as there is so much overlapping information.
Parent of a 19 year old
It was transparent and honest, payment was taken in stages. It was friendly and professional making a difficult process much easier.
Parent of a young adult
Once we realised we needed to get a private autism assessment for our son as the waiting list was too long with the NHS, we spent a long time researching options and finally found Dr Hunt Psychology. Compared to other services, they stood out a mile as they catered specifically for young adults using all the NICE recommended assessment tools. Their approach was also considerate and fair, offering a staggered payment agreement depending on the outcome at each stage of the assessment. The staff were all fantastic, professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We would highly recommend their service
