Private Child Autism Assessment Hertfordshire

Currently, we accept self-referrals from families in Hertfordshire, Essex and North London. Furthermore, we are also happy to accept self-referrals from families who live in other areas across England. Providing you are happy to travel to Hertfordshire for the face-to-face part of the assessment.

Autism Assessment Process for Health Insurance Claims

The assessment process starts a little differently for families who are accessing an assessment via a private health insurance claim. All insurance companies work differently. However, your first step is to call your health insurance provider and ask them if you are covered.

If your policy covers you, you will need to ask them whether you can self-refer for this or whether you will need a referral from your GP. Some private health insurance providers offer a private GP service who can write you a referral if required. You can tell your insurance provider that Dr. Rebecca Hunt is your preferred clinician.

BUPA

BUPA provides you with a ‘pre-authorisation code’ when they cover your child’s autism assessment. Following this, you can contact Dr. Hunt at rebecca@privatechildautismassessment.co.uk with your ;

  • membership number
  • pre-authorisation code
  • child’s name
  • postcode

And we can get started!

Autism Screening Process

It is at this stage that the screening process begins. We do sometimes ask for a bit more information from insurance-funded families than for our self-funded families. This is because we are normally required to write a detailed letter to explain why we feel your child would benefit from an autism assessment.

For BUPA patients, it is reported to take 5-7 working days for a decision to be made about whether the full autism assessment will be covered. BUPA will let you know the outcome. When successful, BUPA provides you with an authorisation code. You use this code to book the developmental history appointment with us.
