Right to Choose Assessments

Why We Do Not Offer Right to Choose Assessments at Dr Hunt Psychology

At Dr Hunt Psychology, we are often asked whether we offer Right to Choose autism and ADHD assessments. While this NHS-funded scheme allows parents to access private providers for neurodiversity assessments, we do not currently participate in it.

Why Not?

To be a Right to Choose provider, a clinic must hold an NHS contract. This means they must also assess children from NHS waiting lists. These contracts are awarded through a tendering process, where commissioners select clinics based on factors such as cost and service structure.

Currently, only a small number of clinics in the UK hold these contracts, and they tend to be large providers. Often these assessments are delivered primarily online.

Our Approach is Different

At Dr Hunt Psychology, we are a small, highly specialised team committed to providing face-to-face, in-depth neurodiversity assessments. Every assessment is carefully overseen and supervised by Dr Hunt to ensure the highest quality of care. We also have options to add additional highly specialist assessments (e.g. language, learning, motor skills) where this would be beneficial.

We believe that high-quality assessments require experienced clinicians, direct observation, and an individualised approach. In other words, something that is not easily scalable to the level required for an NHS contract.

At Dr Hunt Psychology, we prioritise personalised care over volume. Moreover, this means our service model does not align with the requirements for Right to Choose contracts.

What This Means for You

While we do not offer Right to Choose assessments, we are committed to delivering thorough, gold-standard assessments. This is for both autism and ADHD Assessments. If you value a bespoke, clinician-led approach with expert oversight, our service may be the right fit for your child’s needs.

For families considering Right to Choose, we encourage researching providers carefully to ensure they align with your expectations. Think about the importance of both quality and assessment methodology.
